Open board game day at Martin-Luther-Gemeinde: Together instead of alone
On Saturday, 18 April 2026, a free board game event will take place in Wiesbaden at Martin-Luther-Gemeinde, Sartoriusstraße 16.
Under the motto “Together instead of alone”, children from the age of four, young people, adults and seniors can play together and get talking from 11:00 to 18:00. The event is organised by Wiesbaden’s “Spiel und Kultur” association and the evangelical Martin-Luther-Gemeinde Wiesbaden.
Visitors can borrow and play more than 200 different card and board games on site. As well as children’s and family games, there are challenging strategy titles for experienced players. Explainers will help you get started and give recommendations. No registration is required. Food and drink will be available at fair prices. More information is available at www.spielundkultur.de.
“Whether you come as a family, a group or on your own, you’ll quickly make connections through gaming. With cards and dice, it’s easy to start a conversation, meet new people and feel a sense of community. At the table, people experience what’s often missing in everyday life: real interaction. You negotiate with each other, compete, cooperate and meet on equal terms,” says Sebastian Wenzel, chair of the “Spiel und Kultur” association.
“As a congregation, we’re happy to support and organise projects that bring people together and encourage conversation. Some might be surprised to find a gaming event in a church, but community is at the heart of our faith – and gaming is a lively expression of that,” says Pastor Johannes Merkel.
An international study commissioned by Mattel also shows the positive effects of playing together. For this, 33,000 people from Germany, the USA, China, Japan, Finland, Brazil and South Africa were surveyed. 87 per cent agree that gaming reduces loneliness and isolation. It is seen as a key factor for personal well-being, for strengthening interpersonal relationships and for rediscovering joy in life.
