FAQ: BrettSpielZeit at the Leibniz-Zentrum für Archäologie
The BrettSpielZeit meets the Leibniz-Zentrum für Archäologie in Mainz.
Book your free tickets here -> Join the waiting list, because: the event is fully booked (350 registrations). It can still be attended without a ticket, but if there’s a large crowd, we reserve the right to prioritise ticket holders. In practice, this means: without a ticket, you may have to wait, especially at lunchtime. We’ll try to keep waiting times as short and enjoyable as possible. Take part in our survey so we can handle this even better.

Important info about the event:
- The game library will be well stocked with over 300 games and offer broad access to the cultural asset of gaming, but it won’t be fully comprehensive. In other words: feel free to bring your own games – the more games, the more fun.
- You can pay by card and cash at the bistro. At the flea market, however, we’ll need to pay out amounts in the evening, so only cash can be accepted there. Cash machines are within walking distance.
- If you’d like to sell something at the flea market, register yourself and your games here .
- We’re still looking for help at the event, especially with lending out games and explaining them. Really keen to support us? Just send an email to mithilfe@spielundkultur.de.
We’re really looking forward to your visit!

Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Is the BrettSpielZeit free?
Yes, the BrettSpielZeit is completely free. This way, we want to give everyone the chance to participate in social life.
Do I need to register or book a free ticket?
That would be ideal. Tables are the bottleneck of the event – the sooner we know our capacity isn’t enough, the sooner we can address any shortfalls. In principle, however, access to the event is also possible without a ticket or registration. In the end, everyone is welcome, and a warm spot at a table can always be found somehow.
How and when should I be there?
The BrettSpielZeit is an open event. You can come and go whenever you like.
Is the BrettSpielZeit suitable for children?
Yes, the BrettSpielZeit is suitable for all age groups, including children. We’re happy to welcome any family that visits us and spends time together at the gaming table. We have current and recommended children’s games for various age groups on site.
What about food and drink?
There will be drinks available on site. Pretzels, various cakes and snacks will also be offered.
What do I need to bring?
Just enthusiasm for board games, new acquaintances and maybe a little patience until you find a game, players and a table.
Otherwise, we’re of course happy about anyone who brings games and thus contributes to the variety of gaming options at the BrettSpielZeit. So pack your favourite games, find fellow players and get started. Your choice has no limits, whether card game, board game, party game or expert game: the main thing is you’re enthusiastic and want to share that enthusiasm. The only exception: racist, sexist or discriminatory games are not welcome here.
Do I need to know the rules?
No. Someone at the table will always not know the rules. That’s normal. We’ll make sure you get the rules explained as soon as possible. Due to the size of the game library, however, we can’t offer a dedicated rules explanation for every single game.
How does the Bring&Buy flea market work?
Register yourself and your games here. You can bring them to us at the latest on the day of the event. We’ll then sell them for you during the event, for which we take a €2 handling fee + 5 percent of the amount received. Settlement will take place at the end of the event. Please only bring complete and well-maintained games. For more details, see our sales rules here.
How can I support you?
- If you’d like to and have the financial means, we’d be happy to receive a small donation. With the money, we cover running costs and can buy new games for the game library.
- Share our events on Facebook, Insta or Reddit and follow our channels.
