Playful events by the Catholic and Protestant Adult Education

In Wiesbaden, numerous playful events by the Katholische and Evangelische Erwachsenenbildung will take place in 2024.

The programme is under the theme “Spiel – Freiheit. Modell. Experiment.” The programme flyer states, among other things:

“The human being only plays where they are fully human in the true sense of the word, and they are only fully human where they play.”

Many theories define humans as “Homo ludens”, as “playing humans”. Our cognitive and social skills develop essentially through play, and from play emerge manifold forms of social cohesion. Perhaps today, as our economic activities bring about unimaginably large crises, we should turn away from the ideal image of “Homo faber”, the “working human”, and replace it with the self-sufficient play in which we are fully immersed in action with joy and expect no material reward.

With the theme “Spiel”, the Katholische and Evangelische Erwachsenenbildung ask about an essential characteristic of being human. Play always follows an agreed set of rules, and thus community and solutions emerge in play… Play is always voluntary, is freedom.
So, let’s go play!
